LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University softball squad, the 2009 CACC Tournament champions, will begin its title defense this Thursday as the #3 seed when they take on #6 Concordia College (20-15, 17-9 CACC) at noon in the opening round of this year's competition. GCU, for the second straight season, will be the site of the tournament.
The Lions (33-15, 19-7 CACC), winners of four straight, have been idle since April 24th thanks to the untimely cancellation of GCU's final three doubleheaders of the season, all vs. non-conference opponents (Molloy, New Haven, East Stroudsburg).
Coincidentally, GCU has not taken the field since sweeping a twin-bill at Concordia (1-0, 6-0) almost two weeks ago. The Clippers, in their first season as a member of the CACC, own an overall record of 20-15 (17-9 CACC).
Georgian Court looks to duplicate the success of last season when, as the #4 seed, the Lions won all four games they played in the CACC tourney before advancing to the NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals, coming within one victory of the program's first trip to the NCAA Division II Championships.
