PHILADELPHIA- The GCU Lions' 4x400 team of Lauren Calorel, Erin Frye, Krystal Belcher and Justine Elardo obliterated the school record of 4:23.9 with a stellar 4:05.54 at the legendary Penn Track & Field Relays Thursday afternoon.
Calorel,leading off, put the team in a big pack at the first exchange at 62.6 with Frye holding the position through a second leg of 61.2. Belcher (pictured) then flew through the final turn of the third leg running down four teams as she split a stellar 60.8, followed by Elardo’s impressive 59.9 anchor leg.
The team took nearly 20 seconds off the old record.
Also competing in the high jump, Calorel cleared 5’3.75 to tie for 20th in the Eastern States high jump. Shot putters Alyssa Hudgins and Lisa Stuto finished 17th and 23rd, respectively, with Hudgins throwing a personal best of 40 feet.
