KISSIMMEE, FL- The GCU softball squad won the second game of its triple-bill Wednesday afternoon, tarnishing The College of St. Rose Golden Knights, 13-6. The Lions have now won three straight and improve to 6-1 at the Rebel Spring Games.
Georgian Court, batting.327 as a team in seven games, continued its offensive onslaught immediately, chasing St. Rose starting pitcher Courtney Galuski (So.-Cohoes, NY) after just 1/3 of an inning, during which she allowed three runs (2 ER) on three hits. Reliever Nicole Traylor (Jr.-Syracuse, NY) faired no better as she, after getting the final two outs of the first, was unable to scratch out a single Lion in the second, yielding four runs (0 ER) on two hits and a walk overall. Sarah Arbogast (So.-Newark, NY) closed out the game for St. Rose (1-5), but not before Georgian Court broke open the contest with an 11-0 advantage after three innings.
The Lions, led by 2B Rachel Ruch (3-for-5, 3 R, 4 RBI), 1B Kelsey Cutler (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and SS Sammie Jo Garofalo (pictured) (2-for-3, 3 R, RBI) blistered 12 hits, including five of the extra-base variety.
The Golden Eagles added six runs over the fourth and fifth innings, but it was all in vain at that point. Lyndsey PeQueen went the distance for her second collegiate victory (2-0), allowing six unearned runs on six hits and two walks. She also K'd five.
