Calorel Paces Lions at Saturday's Monmouth Open

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Lauren Calorel paced the Lions at this weekend's Monmouth University Open with two first place finishes and a 4th place ranking. 

Calorel (pictured) won the high jump for the third consecutive competition, setting a GCU record of 5'4.  She needed every inch as classmate Mary Sancilio was hot on her heels, also clearing 5'4 in the competition and taking 2nd overall.

Calorel also captured the 60m dash and set a new school record of 27.60 in finishing 4th in the 200m.

Freshmen Justine Elardo and Melissa Parato took 1st and 2nd in the women's 400m while Freshmen Amy Berry and Skye Thompson took 1st and 2nd in the women's long jump.

The Lions recieved a 2-3 finish from Juniors Krystal Belcher and Heather Miara in the 800m with Belcher breaking the school record with a 2:32.5 performance.

The Lions also got a runner-up finish from Freshman Alyssa Hudgins in the shot put and a 2-3-4 finish from Freshmen Justine Berger, Allison Landry and Cynthia Cuiule in the mile.

The Lions will open their outdoor season next Friday, March 19th with the first-ever track & field meet to be hosted at Georgian Court.  Expected attendees include Monmouth University, St. Peter's College and NJIT.
