NEW HAVEN, CT– Georgian Court University senior outside hitter Janelle Murdock and junior middle hitter Stephanie Rivera have been selected to the Daktronics, Inc. East Region Women's Volleyball First Team, which was announced Tuesday. Senior setter Lisamary Figueroa also earned regional accolades, landing a spot on the Second Team.

The First Team All-Region honorees are eligible for the 2009 Daktronics All-American teams. The All-Americans will be announced the first week of December.

Murdock (pictured) also earned postseason honors with a spot on the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team and the CACC All-Tournament Team. The First-Team All-CACC selection led the Lions with 340 kills (2.88 k/s) and 920 total attacks and placed second with 323 digs (2.74 dig/s) The Manahawkin, NJ native finished the regular season with 2.91 k/s (7th in CACC) and while being selected the CACC Player of the Week on two seperate occasions during the campaign. 

Rivera jumps to the First Team after earning Second Team accolades in 2008. The two-time All-CACC First-Teamer led GCU with 78 blocks (19 bs, 59 ba) and placed third on team with 260 kills (2.17 k/s) in 628 total attacks. The Toa Alta, PR native finished regular season with the fifth best hitting percentage in the CACC (.248).

Figueroa, a two-time All-CACC Second Team Selection and the CACC Player of the Week for the week ending September 28th,  led the CACC with 1,082 assists (8.80 a/s) while leading Georgian Court with 48 service aces. The Toa Alta, PR native ranked third on the roster with 302 digs.

The Lions concluded the 2009 season on November 19th in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball East Region Championship. The postseason appearance was GCU's fourth-straight.
